Amarantha's Light: What's in a Name?

When the time came for me to put myself out here and start my own divination business, coming up with a name was not simple. In the ender, there were two experiences that touched me and helped me choose this name.

The first was from when I was a teenager researching my ancestry. You see, I'd never met my dad's parents and he never talked about them. Side note, he never met his dad either and was raised by his Polish grandmother.

So, I started where one did back in the days before DNA testing, with Google. I had little to go on. Since I looked Irish with red-tinged brown hair and an abundance of freckles - and my mother said my dad mentioned potential Irish on his side when they dated - I began searching for a connection between my last name and Ireland.

I didn't find any concrete answers about my lineage, but something I did find - which struck a chord deep inside - and has stuck with me throughout the years was a family motto: Lucent in tenebris. Translated it means "they shine in darkness."

Sit with that for a minute. "They shine in darkness." What does that make you think of? If someone were to say that your family - that you - shine in darkness, how would you feel?

For me, it made me think that in darkness, "they" are the light, the way, the hope. The way to see through and navigate the dark and to find the way out. And so am I. I am a light in the dark, here to provide hope and guidance to others so that they may find their way through life.

The second experience was more recent. During a channeled writing session with my Spirit Team of guardians, guides and ancestors, I asked if they would share their names. The first two names came through strong and clear, and then faintly, but with no less impact, came a name that soothed me - Amaranthe.

I couldn’t get the name out of my head. So began the research. It seemed to be a derivation of Amaranth. I learned that Amaranth holds a special place in many cultures. Various cultures have associated it with healing, endurance, protection, transformation, wisdom, and, lastly, divination.

And so, Amarantha’s Light was born.
